Shadow Attorney and Shadow Minister for Justice, Mike Horan MP will meet with member for Currumbin Jann Stuckey MP and LNP candidate for Burleigh Michael Hart to formally announce that under a LNP Government the Palm Beach Police Station would be operating 24 hours a day.

“Michael Hart and I have been lobbying for more police resources for several years and in 2006 I tabled a petition containing 4,789 signatures calling for 24/7 policing at Palm Beach,” said Ms Stuckey

“The LNP has listened to the concerns of local residents and acted in a positive manner.

“The Labor Government and the Police Minister Judy Spence have misled the public for too long by claiming the Palm Beach Station operates 24 hours a day, when counter service only operates from 8am until 4pm.

“Police sources have told me there is a definite need in this region for a station that allows people to access police 24/7.

“In recent times our community has encountered out-of-control youth, violence towards innocent victims, and an increase in car hooning despite the best intentions of local police.”

“The LNP takes a ‘tough on crime’ attitude. Shadow Minister for Police Vaughan Johnson MP has committed an extra 1000 police officers and 84 have been allocated to the Gold Coast,” said Mr Horan.

“The LNP is committed to safer local communities and that is why we would introduce laws that protect the good people in our neighbourhoods from thugs who thumb their nose at law and order.

“New laws would include making graffiti vandals clean up their own or someone else’s mess and Hoon watch will make it easier to catch law breakers.

“Our Juvenile Justice Act would remove jail as a last resort for serious offenders and we would provide youth training opportunities for those on the edge of becoming criminals to turn their lives around.

“The soft on crime attitude by Labor has allowed unruly behaviour to flourish unpunished and the LNP will not tolerate it.”
