Member for Currumbin, Jann Stuckey MP, is urging residents in the Currumbin electorate to get involved in Crime Prevention Month throughout October.

“The Queensland Police Service is asking everyone to help prevent crime and enhance community safety between 1 – 31 October,” Ms Stuckey said.

“This year’s theme is ‘Crime Prevention – be a part of it’, and participation will help to reduce crime in our area.

“Residents, organisations and community groups are encouraged to go along to events to be held during the month, or organise their own.

“A number of events are to be held in the Currumbin electorate in October.

“The Crime Stoppers Van will be on display at the Coolangatta beach front every Friday in October from 9am to 1pm. Visitors can learn about the latest crime prevention initiatives and tips.

“A colouring in competition will also be held in each of our primary schools throughout the month for 6 to 12 year olds, with prizes to be won.

“The Gold Coast City Council Graffiti Project will be on display at The Pines Shopping Centre on 13 October from 10am to 2pm for anyone interested in discussing graffiti and crime prevention strategies.

“For those wishing to be involved, suggestions include:
– organising a community seminar on a safety topic of your choice
– conduct a home security audit
– distributing fact sheets and information about crime prevention initiatives to your neighbours, friends and family
– promote Crime Prevention Month in your organisation’s newsletter or website
– join a Neighbourhood Watch group in your local area
– attend a local crime prevention event near you
