Member for Currumbin Jann Stuckey MP said the people of Currumbin have today had their voices heard with the Premier ruling out a Cruise Ship Terminal at Kirra.

“Locals were loud and clear in their opposition to the proposed Cruise Ship Terminal and the Newman Government has listened,” Ms Stuckey said.

“In my 10 years as the Member for Currumbin I have always stood beside my community and carried their concerns to the relevant authorities.

“As the Minister for Tourism I recognise the importance of attracting these projects to Queensland, but not at the expense of existing iconic locations.  We rightfully take great pride in the beauty of our beaches. So much so Currumbin was recognised as Australia’s Cleanest Beach in 2013.

“Kirra is a world famous surfing break and along with our other iconic southern beaches is home to an array of stellar surfing and surf life-saving events that contribute significantly to the community and the local economy.

“The Premier has been very clear that our beaches are just too important and we will simply never entertain the idea of a Cruise Ship Terminal at Kirra Beach.
