LNP Shadow Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey has congratulated Gold Coast Tourism for securing the direct flight deal with China Southern Airlines that promises a huge boost for local tourism within four years.

Ms Stuckey said potential benefits to Gold Coast tourism could be enormous from direct flights from China’s third-largest city Guangzhou, of 10 million-plus people, to Coolangatta.

“It’s four years away, but the potential is enormous,” Ms Stuckey said.

“Gold Coast Airport bosses and Gold Coast Tourism deserve accolades for securing this major deal.

“This announcement is a significant milestone and we need to make sure we will be ready to cater to this massive market.”

While Ms Stuckey was full of praise for Gold Coast Tourism, she said the long-term Labor government needed to lift its game.

“The Gold Coast has been forgotten by Bligh Labor at a critical time when thousands of local jobs are on the line and our tourism industry is looking for real leadership, support and innovative thinking.

“The CanDo LNP team will cut waste and focus on delivering what Queenslanders really need.”
