Currumbin – Queensland’s cleanest beach!

16 April 2013

Member for Currumbin, Jann Stuckey MP has congratulated the local community following last weekend’s announcement of Currumbin being named Queensland’s cleanest beach for 2012/13, as judged by Keep Queensland Beautiful.

“Currumbin residents have long been aware just how spectacular our beaches are, and it is fitting that Currumbin beach has now been recognised through this state-wide award,” Ms Stuckey said.

“Despite a season of tumultuous weather events, Currumbin has been spared any serious coastal erosion and is looking as beautiful as ever.

“Out of a total of 8 categories in the Clean Beach awards, Currumbin was top, or equal top, in 6 which is a true testament to the community who use and care for our beaches.

“Currumbin Vikings SLSC, Friends of Currumbin, and members of the community are to be commended for the diligence and pride they display in keeping our foreshores in perfect condition.

“On the southern Gold Coast we are blessed with a string of stunning beaches that attract visitors from near and far.

“Currumbin plays hosts to many community events and the famous Swell Sculpture Festival that transforms the picturesque foreshore into an outdoor gallery.

“With sandy beaches, a sheltered creek mouth and a range of beach activities to enjoy, Currumbin really is a haven for leisure, relaxation and family fun.

“A ceremony will be held in May to officially recognise Currumbin as Queensland’s cleanest beach.
