Currumbin MP Jann Stuckey, a strong advocate for community consultation has applauded the voting public in her electorate for their high participation in a recent survey about local and state Government issues.

“In early July this year I sent personalised mail to everyone on the electoral roll in Currumbin (approx 30,000) asking people to prioritise items from a list of ten issues of concern,” said Ms Stuckey

“I truly am overwhelmed by the response.  To date over 2,700 people have replied to this survey with more still trickling into my office each day.  This figure represents around 9% of our electorate and provides me with the direct views of a significant percentage of the Currumbin electorate.

“Two years ago I conducted a survey on community issues in the Currumbin electorate and received about 1,200 replies.  At the time it was considered to be a high response so this figure is enormous.”

“The majority of respondents also took the time to write down problems they would like fixed and some even attached extra sheets of paper.  I have read every single comment written on these surveys, and I am fully aware of the messages my electorate is sending me.

“The top three concerns were a need for more police on the beat, tackling crime – tougher sentences for criminals, and health – more hospital beds and shorter waiting lists.  Doubtless this message would be similar in other electorates across our great state.

“I wish to thank everyone who has responded to this exercise as it shows that people in our community do care about protecting and promoting a safe society that is serviced properly by the State Government.

“Currumbin is a unique place, gifted with a natural beauty that is envied by many. I am heartened that such a high number of residents appreciate this fact and want us to keep it that way.

“It will take considerable time to enter the massive amount of data in these surveys. I shall endeavour to reply directly and via my newsletter, to as many people as I can and also will circulate comments about specific issues.

“In addition once the data is collected I shall make representations on behalf of the good folk of the Currumbin electorate to the relevant Ministers seeking more support in these critical areas.
