Member for Currumbin Jann Stuckey MP has welcomed news from the Minister for Communities, the Hon Tracy Davis, that the Southern Gold Coast 60 & Better Program Inc will receive funding towards a Seniors Week initiative.

“The funding that has been awarded provides a real helping hand to the 60 & Better Program who continue to provide a positive social environment for senior citizens in our community,” Ms Stuckey said.

“Funds will assist the program in holding a carnival on Thursday 23rd August at The Pines Shopping Centre, Elanora as part of Seniors Week 2012.

“The carnival will include a range of stalls and host entertainers, performers including rock and roll and line dancing, exercise and zumba demonstrations, scrapbooking workshops, cooking demonstrations and much more.

“With around 25 stalls set up throughout the centre the carnival will be a perfect opportunity for seniors to be involved in an enjoyable and inclusive environment with others in their community.

“The carnival will also incorporate students from local schools providing a rare yet valuable chance for our younger and older generations to mix.

Ms Sherree Fleming from the 60 & Better Program said that the valuable funding will cover staff expenses for administration and coordination of the event, administrative expenses, performer’s fees, catering costs and incidental expenses.

“This year’s theme is ‘Carnivale’, a fun-filled day that will focus on demonstrating the value of seniors contributing to healthy, active and socially inclusive purists learned over many years,” Ms Fleming said.

“I encourage the community to support this program through the activities they organise and to lock in Thursday 23rd August on their calendars to ensure they don’t miss out on what is sure to be a great day,” Ms Stuckey said.
