World-class manufacturing and education facilities and small to medium businesses were all part of the Gold Coast along with tourism, the State Opposition said today.

LNP Shadow Minister for Small Business and Member for Currumbin Jann Stuckey said new Labor Minister Jan Jarratt was out of touch with her one-dimensional view of the Gold Coast as purely a tourist destination.

“Job losses on the Gold Coast aren’t limited to just the tourism sector,” Ms Stuckey said.

“We have significant educational facilities, world-class manufacturing industries and tens of thousands of small businesses across the region.

“Before Ms Jarratt accuses me of not standing up for the Gold Coast, she better check her facts on what this great region has to offer.

“As a small business owner I know all too well the hardship businesses are facing under Labor’s mounting layers of red tape, soaring taxes and charges.

“Locals know the Gold Coast is bleeding jobs across all areas, not just in tourism.

“Businesses need to be freed from Labor’s decade of red tape and over regulation to allow them to develop and expand.”
