Queensland’s tourism industry will converge on the Gold Coast later this year for the second annual DestinationQ Forum to be held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Premier Campbell Newman and Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Minister Jann Stuckey, made the announcement today, reaffirming the State Government’s commitment to the tourism industry.

The Premier said the inaugural DestinationQ Forum held in Cairns in June last year was a landmark event, bringing the industry together for the first time in more than a quarter of a century.

“The first DestinationQ Forum was about creating a partnership agreement and a strategy to get tourism back on track,” Mr Newman said.

“Queensland is a great state with great opportunity and when we come together again in August we will be working towards establishing a 20 year plan to build a vision for the industry that reflects that.

“Tourism is one of the four pillars of the Queensland economy and we will continue to deliver a whole of government approach as part of our commitment to double annual overnight visitor expenditure to $30 billion.”

Ms Stuckey said the 2013 forum on the Gold Coast would allow delegates to reflect on the results of the 12 month key action plan and consider a long-term agenda for the industry.

“The plan outlined more than 30 action items including red tape reduction, encouraging private sector investment, marketing and eco-tourism opportunities and I am pleased to say we are on track to meet all of these,” Ms Stuckey said.

“We have also delivered on our commitment to create a coordinated and strategic approach to attracting visitors through the creation of Tourism and Events Queensland.

“More than 300 delegates attended the inaugural forum and as a proud Gold Coast resident, I am thrilled to bring the 2013 DestinationQ Forum to the region.”
