Member for Currumbin Jann Stuckey MP is encouraging Currumbin community and volunteer groups who help others to apply for a share of $1.35 million to buy essential items to provide support for the local community.

Ms Stuckey said the community and volunteer groups in Currumbin should take advantage of the Newman Government’s Caring for our Community election commitment, which will provide a total of $4 million in small grants over three years.

“The Newman Government is providing $1.35 million this year for small grants as part of this fantastic program, to help give our local community groups a boost,” she said.

“On offer are small grants of up to $5,000 and up to $15,000 depending on the needs of individual community groups.

“Up to $5,000 is available towards small equipment items and materials, such as computers, upgraded software or white goods.

“Organisations can also apply for bigger grants of up to $15,000, which may be considered for more substantial projects, such as making food preparation areas compliant with regulations.

“The application process is quick and paperless to make it as easy as possible for community groups,” she said.

“We know that the cost of equipment can quickly mount up for these organisations, so we’re doing what we can to help them keep up their great work.

“Currumbin has so many great community organisations that provide an invaluable service and the Newman Government recognises and supports their efforts.

“Local groups could really benefit from this opportunity so I strongly encourage all to apply.

Applications can now be made at until 3.00pm on Monday 4 December 2012.
