Labor delays key GC Highway transport study

Member for Currumbin, Jann Stuckey says delays by Palaszczuk Labor government failure to complete the $600,000.00 multi-modal study along the Gold Coast Highway between Burleigh and Tugun are causing unnecessary anxiety for small business owners and residents.

"When I asked Minister Bailey about the progress of this overdue report he replied it was expected in the second half of 2019, a year later than anticipated," said Ms Stuckey.

"Like so many Labor projects, they fail to meet deadlines and go over budget costing taxpayers plenty.

"Successive Labor Ministers keep pushing the completion timeline out which is most distressing for residents and businesses along this stretch.

"In October 2016, I was told the study would commence in early 2017 with completion in 2018.

"Now I am told duration of this study has increased due to additional investigations being undertaken.

"Money for this multi-modal study was allocated in the 2016-17 budget yet here we are, a third of the way through 2019, and no study has been released.

"It’s simply not good enough.

"People are worried about their homes and lifestyle as their future will remain uncertain until this report will be released.

"The Minister needs to explain just what these investigations are and will this time extension cost more?

"This is a highly sensitive issue for residents and businesses in this region and they deserve answers".
