Member for Currumbin, Jann Stuckey MP has slammed Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk’s blatant fear-mongering attempts regarding a fictitious cruise terminal at Kirra.

“Gold Coast residents have again been misled by a desperate Labor leader chasing votes at the expense of the truth,” Ms Stuckey said.

“Under the guise of supporting the Gold Coast’s nomination for World Surfing Reserve status Ms Palaszczuk took the opportunity to spread falsehoods that would cause unnecessary concern amongst residents.

“So, it’s natural that we would want to recognise that and offer them protection from ill-conceived development like the proposed cruise ship terminal which was recently put on the table for Kirra by the LNP Government.”

“Once again, Ms Palaszczuk, in her obvious attempts to deceive voters, has demonstrated Labor’s party policies are as hollow as their promises,” Ms Stuckey said.

“On 19 January 2014, Premier Newman made clear this Government’s position when it came to our beaches:

The Government has said no to a cruise ship terminal on the southern part of the Gold Coast off the beaches. We’ve said no to impacting on the beaches that people love.”

“…I’m saying there will be no cruise ship terminal on the southern part of the Gold Coast or indeed on any part of the Gold Coast that impacts on the beaches. And I can’t be clearer than that.”

Ms Stuckey said the people of the Gold Coast and Queensland must ignore an Opposition clearly too lazy to even check their facts.

“If the Labor leader can’t get her facts straight – how can you trust anything Labor says?” Ms Stuckey said.
