Let’s cheer on Currumbin’s Baton Relay Bearers

Member for Currumbin Jann Stuckey is calling on Currumbin residents to get out and cheer on Currumbin’s Queen’s Baton Relay bearers on Tuesday 3 April.
“The Baton will be carried through the Currumbin electorate on Tuesday, starting in Coolangatta and moving through Bilinga, Tugun and Currumbin before heading over to the neighboring Palm Beach electorate,” Ms Stuckey said.
“I’m excited and proud that 42 of the Gold Coast 2018 batonbearers live in our beautiful electorate of Currumbin.
The Queen’s Baton Relay is a Games tradition that celebrates the Commonwealth’s diversity, inspires community pride and excites people about the world-class festival of sports and culture to come.
The Queen’s Baton carries a message from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II that calls the Commonwealth’s athletes to come together in peaceful and friendly competition.
“The eyes of the world will be on Currumbin during the Commonwealth Games because we are hosting three events – the race walk and cycling in Currumbin and the beach volleyball in Coolangatta,” Ms Stuckey added.
“I’m so excited the games are almost upon us and what better way to kick them off than by cheering along the Queens baton and all of the lucky baton bearers through our beautiful piece of paradise. I’m urging everyone to get out there and support them as they come past.
The Baton starts its journey at a free Community Celebration in Captain Cook Memorial Park Coolangatta. The event is from 6am with the baton arriving at 6:37am and commencing its journey through the electorate at 6:52am.
