A new blockbuster Gold Coast tourism campaign ‘And Action’ will grace the silver screen from this Sunday.

Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Jann Stuckey said the new campaign brings to life the Gold Coast’s ‘Famous for Fun’ brand in a series of movie trailer-style advertisements on cinema and television screens.

“Screenings of the Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) and Gold Coast Tourism (GCT) initiative will appear in Sydney and Melbourne, with the campaign running until the end of June,” Ms Stuckey said.

“This cinematic campaign demonstrates that whatever your age or interests, you can write your own holiday script filled with your own fun moments from the nation’s tourism playground.”

In 2012, the Gold Coast welcomed more than two million Australian holidaymakers, a 13 per cent increase compared with 2011.

All up, visitors to the Gold Coast in 2012 spent more than $3.1 billion on trips, a 14 per cent increase from 2011.

“Our aim is to continue building on this momentum by keeping the Gold Coast’s vast array of visitor experiences top of mind among Australians,” Ms Stuckey said.

Gold Coast Tourism CEO Martin Winter said more than 50 Gold Coast operators are also participating in the ‘And Action’ campaign through online advertisements.

“It’s great to see so many local operators able to benefit from the campaign by showcasing their products online,” Mr Winter said.

“We are also partnering with Virgin Australia to entice consumers to the region with great fares from Sydney and Melbourne.

“This next phase of the campaign builds on our already successful and established ‘Famous for fun’ brand and takes it a step further to showcase the Gold Coast experience bigger and more vivid.

“The advertisements are action-packed, capturing the diversity, energy, and of course fun of the Gold Coast as a destination in a style and scale that does justice to the ‘Famous for fun’ promise.”
