Member for Currumbin Jann Stuckey MP is encouraging interested Currumbin community members to apply for a place on the Gold Coast Waterways Authority Board.

“The establishment of this Board gives our community the chance to be part of a team tasked to deliver positive outcomes for Gold Coast waterways,” Ms Stuckey said.

“Establishing the GCWA Board is another election commitment this Government is fulfilling and is part of our six month action plan which will see one of the Gold Coast’s most important assets back under the control of locals.

“With $30 million from the LNP’s Marine Infrastructure Fund committed to the Gold Coast over four years, the board will be responsible for ensuring the long term sustainable use of the waterways.

“Public nominations are now open for interested community members to apply for a place on the Gold Coast Waterways Authority Board.

“Residents with marine, coastal or waterways planning or development backgrounds as well as infrastructure engineering, commercial and marketing development experience should consider applying.

“Former Gold Coast Mayor Gary Baildon was announced as chair-designate of the board in late June.

The GCWA Board will comprise seven members including an independent chairperson, a Gold Coast City Council delegate and five others to be appointed by the Minister for Transport and Main Roads.

Nominations for the board members are being accepted until 31 August 2012. For more information visit www.tmr.qld.gov.au/gcwa or contact the GCWA Project Team on 3120 7464.
