People Power brings Quarry Win

Member for Currumbin Jann Stuckey has congratulated the southern Gold Coast community group S.T.O.P. the Quarry who fought so hard over many years to block the construction of the Labor backed Boral quarry in their tranquil suburb.

“Today’s court decision to refuse Boral's appeal against Gold Coast City Council’s stance to oppose the quarry is a win for people power and persistence,” Ms Stuckey said.

“Labor created this whole saga by sneakily going behind people’s backs and proclaiming the proposed site a Key Resource Area (KRA).”
“In 2010 the Bligh Labor Government further declared the quarry a Project of State Significance.
“Annastacia Palaszczuk failed to stop the quarry after being elected, causing untold angst amongst countless residents in Tallebudgera,” she said.

“I have opposed the quarry since the first public meeting in 2010 and fought alongside our community and my LNP colleagues - Member for Mudgeeraba Ros Bates and Member for Burleigh Michael Hart – and their communities who were worried about the impact this quarry would have had on our lifestyles, health and home values.”

“I’d also like to congratulate Mayor Tom Tate and the Gold Coast City Council for successfully defending their decision to refuse the quarry application in the Appeals Court.

“At long last our community advocacy has seen a well-deserved win - it’s a victory for people power”.
