Member for Currumbin, Jann Stuckey MP has congratulated the Jaran Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dance Company for their highly successful tour of Hawaii from 23rd – 30th October 2012.

“The Jaran dance group were invited to join the Arthur Beetson Foundation Murri Queensland Tour of Hawaii to perform at the opening ceremony and throughout the tour,” Ms Stuckey said.

“This was a fantastic opportunity for the group to showcase their truly unique performance where they combine Aboriginal as well as Torres Strait Islander dance routines, providing a culturally enriching experience.

“Whilst in Hawaii the group performed at four different locations, including the Polynesian Cultural Centre and the Opening Ceremony, with standing ovations and rave reviews from those who witnessed their performances.

“I was extremely pleased to be able to support the group and help them participate in such a memorable and special tour that showcased their talents on the world stage.

Graham Blanco, director of the dance company, said the group had received fantastic reviews.

“The group was recognised not only in relation to the high standard of our performances in Hawaii, but the professionalism of Jaran and the spirit that each performer captured as they danced on stage,” Mr Blanco said.

“I encourage Currumbin residents to visit Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary to experience Jaran performing in the Yanguwah show,” Ms Stuckey said.
