Member for Currumbin, Jann Stuckey MP, has welcomed news of the scrapping of a building application for pool owners who upgrade or repair their pool barriers.

“The announcement last week by Housing and Public Works Minister Dr Bruce Flegg to scrape this unnecessary rep tape is a big win for Currumbin residents who will see savings in both time and money,” Ms Stuckey said.

“Pool safety inspectors will now be able to assess upgrade and repair work after amendments to Building Regulation 2006.

“Previously, pool owners had to submit a building application for any fencing works for a pool barrier involving more than five metres of fence or more than six fence posts.

“This will be a real saving of between $350 and $900 for home pool owners as part of our commitment to cut red tape.
