Member for Currumbin Jann Stuckey MP has declared the Tour de Valley cycling time trial event held in Currumbin Valley on Sunday 13 October a huge success.

“Tour de Valley hit the roads of Currumbin Valley for the second year running, and turned on another competitive battle for riders,” Ms Stuckey said.

“This year the event received funding under the Tourism and Events Queensland Regional Development Program, which allowed them to grow and develop from the inaugural event in 2012.

“Some 340 competitors cycled the picturesque track that passes the hidden attractions scattered throughout the Valley, as part of the only major trial event in Australia open to all riders.

“With a mix of intra and interstate visitors, the competition was fierce and I extend my congratulations to Chris Williams and Helen Griffiths the open male and female winners in the Zander Sports Individual Time Trial.

Tour de Valley event organiser Chris Thompson said this year’s event really well and it was a great day for all involved.

“The windy conditions proved testing, however we had an incident free race that was a huge success,” Mr Thompson said.

“The course is the proposed track for the 2018 Commonwealth Games preparations, and the perfect backdrop to showcase the hidden treasures of the southern Gold Coast,” Ms Stuckey said.

“It was great to see the community out supporting this event and the weather certainly delivered a perfect day for spectators and participants.

“Tour de Valley has established itself as an important event on the cycling calendar and will no doubt continue to grow as it attracts the interest of competitors from far and wide.”
