Jann Stuckey MP, Member for Currumbin, and Ros Bates MP, Member for Mudgeeraba today joined with the Stop the Gold Coast Quarry Action Group to launch a petition calling on the State Government to oppose plans for the proposed Boral Quarry in the Tallebudgera Valley area.

“Boral has proposed a 219 hectare site of natural bushland adjacent to Tallebudgera Valley as the site of a future quarry, which will require approval from both the State and Federal governments,” Ms Stuckey said.

“Following a community meeting attended by over 400 concerned residents last December, an action group was formed and the decision made to start a petition to oppose the quarry.

“Member for Mudgeeraba Ros Bates and I have given a commitment to work together with local residents and take the fight to the State Government.

“Not only will this project impact on the wildlife and surrounding environment, the peaceful atmosphere enjoyed by residents in this beautiful part of the world will be destroyed.

Members of the Stop the Gold Coast Quarry committee have sought meetings with state government Ministers at this Sunday’s Community Cabinet to express their opposition to the proposal.

Committee member Tony Davis said, “The location of this proposed quarry gives no consideration whatsoever to the lifestyle, amenity and residential values of the people who live in the Tallebudgera Valley, Reedy Creek, Burleigh and surrounding areas.

“It is wrong and it must be stopped,” he said.

“I encourage all concerned residents to get behind the Stop the Gold Coast Quarry Action Group and sign the petition to preserve this parcel of natural land for future generations,” Ms Stuckey said.

The petition will be available to sign at the Currumbin Electorate Office, 1/1045 Gold Coast Highway, Palm Beach and an e-petition is available through the Parliament website at
