Member for Currumbin, Jann Stuckey MP, is calling on Currumbin residents to exercise patience while road upgrades are undertaken in the second half of 2010.

“The Department of Main Roads has informed me that work has started this week at the intersection of the Gold Coast Highway and Tugun-Currumbin Road, formerly Stewart Road,” Ms Stuckey said.

“Works to be completed include a new southbound right-turn/U-turn lane from the Gold Coast Highway into Tugun-Currumbin Road, new line marking and cycle lanes from Tugun to Terminal Drive, road resurfacing and better traffic signal coordination.

“This intersection upgrade is expected to continue through to November, with work also to start on the Bilinga interchange upgrade in late 2010.

“I urge residents to show patience and caution while these critical road works are undertaken.

“Speed through the Gold Coast Highway intersection work zone will be reduced to 40km/hour and motorists should expect delays and allow for extra travel time if using this route.

“Residents will be kept informed during construction by letterbox flyers, traffic updates on the 13 19 40 phone line, and roadside signs throughout the work site.

“Plans for the Bilinga interchange upgrade to take place later in the year are also available from my office.

“While road works can be frustrating and tedious, I encourage all Currumbin residents to see the benefit in providing for the long-term safety of motorists through our electorate.
