Member for Currumbin Jann Stuckey has applauded the local community for their generous response to the Department of Communities Christmas Appeal for abused children.

“I am overwhelmed by the kind-heartedness of individuals, local businesses and community organisations who have donated a variety of sporting equipment for these needy kids.  The Palm Beach Currumbin Lioness Club and Sports Action at the Pines Shopping Centre were especially generous.

“The types of goods we have received include boogie boards, badminton sets, junior golf and cricket sets, volleyballs, basketballs, frisbees, and the list goes on.
“These sporting goods will be enormously appreciated by children in care and their foster families, and will also help give young Queenslanders the opportunity to reach their full potential and enjoy a healthy and active holiday.

“This year, over 7,500 Queensland children will be spending Christmas away from their families due to abuse and neglect and every generous gift donated will go a little way towards bringing them some Christmas cheer.

“The gifts will be collected by Child Safety services and delivered to children in our local area to enjoy.

“I thank the good folk of Currumbin for sharing the Christmas spirit with those less fortunate.”
