Jann Stuckey MP, Member for Currumbin, has paid her respects to police who died in the line of duty at the National Police Remembrance Day ceremony at Coolangatta today.

“National Police Remembrance Day is such an important event on the police calendar each year and one that I am always humbled to be a part of.

“This year was particularly difficult with the death of Coomera Detective Senior Constable Damian Leeding still so fresh in everyone’s hearts and minds.

“For the Gold Coast to lose its first officer in the line of duty has been tough, with an outpouring of emotion across the city for the much loved policeman and family man.

“I would urge Currumbin residents to remember the difficult and dangerous job our police officers do, putting their lives on the line for the safety of our community.

“We have developed a strong relationship of cooperation between police and the community in the Currumbin electorate in recent years.

“In many ways this is testament to our dedicated officers at Palm Beach and Coolangatta stations and the Elanora Police Beat who work hard to keep our streets and schools safe.

“Our police should be praised for the dedicated service they provide. Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our appreciation.
