Member for Currumbin, Jann Stuckey MP says she hasn’t been able to get a time for the commencement of the undergrounding of powerlines in the Mudgeeraba to Tugun network upgrade.

Ms Stuckey said:  “Despite the recent election commitment of $29 million to underground powerlines through established communities in Palm Beach and Currumbin this Labor government has done nothing.

I’ve been told that until a route has been finalised, I can’t be given a date for the start of the project and a revised construction time-frame cannot be finalised.”

“It is more than a year since the draft initial assessment report (IAR)  was released on the project and an Energex-led community reference group of residents hasn’t met for almost nine months.

“Residents are rightly concerned and are regularly calling my office and asking is it still going ahead?  As a result I’ve been told by the Minister’s Parliamentary Secretary that Energex is finalising the route for a revised Assessment report based on feedback from the community on the draft IAR.

“I’ve been informed that there will be two more meetings of the reference group, one prior to the public release of the revised IAR and another after the release.  Members will be briefed on the report’s content, submission process and updated timeframes for the project.

“Energex anticipates the revised IAR will be released in the near future and closer to that time all members of the reference group will be contacted to arrange the meeting.  Energex expects  this will be the final meeting as public consultation on the project will cease with the closure of the final submission period.

“When the consultation processes have been completed, Energex has advised it will seek Ministerial designation of the corridor of land required for the project as community infrastructure under the Integrated Planning Act 1997.”
