Jann Stuckey MP, Member for Currumbin, says the issue of lighting along a stretch of the Gold Coast Highway has suffered from buck passing between Gold Coast City Council and the State Government.

“The issue of lighting along a dark stretch of the Gold Coast Highway between Palm Beach Parklands and Currumbin Estuary Bridge has been ongoing for months,” Ms Stuckey said.

“I fully support the reasonable requests from Friends of Currumbin for street lighting, however GCCC and the State Government have been disputing whose responsibility it is.

“Both Friends of Currumbin and I have been given the run-around from both authorities for too long.

“My office sought clarification from the Department of Main Roads and was advised in October that this stretch is the responsibility of GCCC.

“However news of a cost-sharing agreement between GCCC and the State Government adds further confusion to the situation.

“It should not be this difficult to get some much-needed lighting for safety purposes.

“I have asked the Department for consideration of this project and to give me a timeframe of when these works will be undertaken.
