Member for Currumbin, Jann Stuckey MP said local families will be safer thanks to a $20,000 boost to deliver an innovative and collaborative road safety initiative as part of the Queensland Government’s Community Road Safety Grants.

“Tallebudgera State School is one of 59 community groups that were successful in receiving a total of $1 million worth of community grants,” Ms Stuckey said.

“The funds will cover the costs associated with extending the current drop off/pick up and go shelter at the main car park of the school.

“Making our roads safer is a whole-of-community effort and is part of our stronger plan for a brighter future.

“I want to congratulate Tallebudgera State School for thinking outside the box and coming up with innovative initiatives to help promote road safety on the southern Gold Coast.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said the Queensland Government’s Community Road Safety Grants program was in its second round and had so far awarded almost $2 million to a diverse mix of organisations across the state.

“I congratulate the successful recipients of this second round of funding for working together to make road safety a priority in the community,” Mr Emerson said.

“These grants assist local groups who have considerable insight into both the background to local road safety problems and what type of solutions will work best for their community members.

Mr Emerson said another $2 million had also been allocated for a further two rounds of funding in the 2014/15 financial year.

“We are delivering on our election promise to revitalise frontline services,” he said.

“Applications for third round funding opened 8 July and will close on the 22 August.

“It’s time to get thinking about innovative ways to promote safety in your area – your creativity may go a long way in helping to prevent injuries and save lives.”
