The Minister for Public Works and ICT should have been embarrassed today by revelations his department had agreed to a payroll system that could not process basic pay entitlements such as meal allowances.

LNP spokeswoman for Public Works Jann Stuckey said basic employee entitlements for Queensland Health staff, such as meal allowances and payment in lieu, were left out of the original payroll replacement contract.

“Rather than acknowledge his department made a mistake, the Minister showed that he could not care less.

“He continues to insist that omissions like this are standard behaviour for the Bligh Labor Government.

“The Minister is happy to ignore the basic rights and entitlements of workers – no wonder his department delivered a system that has failed to pay Queensland Heath workers correctly for 10 weeks in a row.

“This Minister, like this Government, refuses to accept any responsibility for their avoidable failures that are punishing Queensland workers.

“Rather than show leadership, Robert Schwarten is happy to blame bureaucrats and let them carry the can.”
