Member for Currumbin, Jann Stuckey MP has welcomed the opening of applications for the Get Started component of the Newman Government’s $18 million grassroots funding support program.

“The Get in the Game initiative comprises of three separate sections: Get Started, Get Going and Get Playing,” Ms Stuckey said.

Get Started is designed to help kids who can least afford, or would otherwise benefit from getting involved in sport, with vouchers of up to $150 to help pay for membership and participation fees at a registered club.

“Already 22 clubs in Currumbin have applied to be registered for Get Started with local families able to redeem their vouchers at any of these clubs.

“Over the next three years $6 million will be allocated to this program which will provide up to 40,000 vouchers for young people throughout Queensland.

“This grassroots sporting initiative is another way the Newman Government is helping ease the cost of living for Queensland families.”

“We look forward to working with clubs throughout the state to ensure Queenslanders have access to sporting and recreational opportunities and facilities wherever they live.”

The funding will be distributed in two rounds each year on a first come, first served basis.

Application forms for Get Started, as well as information on the Get Going and Get Playing components of Get in the Game, are now available online at www.nprsr.qld.gov.au.
