Member for Currumbin, Jann Stuckey MP, has welcomed news that 100 additional car parks will be added at Varsity Lakes Train Station following her calls to the Transport Minister.

“I called on the Minister to urgently address the dire parking situation at the Varsity station after numerous local residents were fined $120 by Council for parking on verges as there were no available carparks.

“The Minister has now announced an interim solution to the parking issue at Varsity Lakes station after a rush of media interest last week as a result of my exposure of this Government shortcoming.

“This Labor Government took 11 years to build one rail station, extending only 4.1km from Robina.

“The population of the Gold Coast has soared during this time and their failure to plan for adequate parking is inexcusable.

“Once again the incompetence and shoddy planning practices of the Bligh Government have been revealed and people have been punished unnecessarily.

“I will monitor the situation closely and make sure the Minister keeps her promise to ensure that more car parks are constructed as soon as possible.
